Outcomes from Higher-Level Vocational Education and Training Qualifications
Stanwick, John
National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER)
Where do higher-level vocational education and training (VET) qualifications lead? This study investigates whether they lead to employment at associate professional or higher occupations, or whether they are a pathway to university studies. Findings indicate that there are good employment outcomes for some graduates, although often at below associate professional level. The study also found that these qualifications are a significant pathway to university studies for young graduates. This report will be of interest to policymakers concerned with the outcomes of VET courses and those involved in the design of higher-level VET courses. Industry groups that have skill needs for occupations at associate professional or professional level will also find this report of interest. Appended are: (1) Data sources; (2) Detailed enrolment characteristics; (3) Course motivation by field of education; (4) Most popular occupational levels by field of education; (5) Comparison of outcomes from bachelor degrees and diploma courses; (6) Occupation before and after training for graduates 25 and over; and (7) Detailed employment outcomes by field of education. (Contains 46 tables.)
