Section 504 in the Classroom: How to Design and Implement Accomodation Plans
Miller, Lynda; Newbill, Chris
PRO-ED, Inc.
Since the first edition of this book was published, an increasing number of educational professionals have become familiar with Section 504 and the benefits it can offer. During that same time, the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act was enacted. The authors of the second edition of Section 504 in the classroom have updated it by showing how the NCLB has influenced schools' interpretations and implementations of Section 504. New material has been added, including new case studies and examples throughout. The look of the book has also changed through the use of illustrative boxes and figures. Underlying the changes and updates, however, is the same fundamental philosophy that schools, when successful, are places where people-students, teachers, parents, administrators, friends, janitorial staff--come together to participate in a community of learning based on the idea that everyone wants to learn and is capable of doing so. The most successful teachers are those who see their students' strength and focus on those to support students in becoming capable, knowledgeable, and skilled. To convey this philosophy, the authors have included descriptions of students for whom they have developed 504 plans, along with the actual 504 plans, so the and needs. This user-friendly book will help education professionals to better design and implement instructional practices under the guidelines of Section 504.
