Exploring Race Differences in Correlates of Seniors' Satisfaction with Undergraduate Education
Einarson, Marne K.; Matier, Michael W.
Online Submission, Paper presented at the Annual Forum of the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) (44th, Boston, MA, May 28-Jun 2, 2004)
This study employed multiple linear regression and decision tree analysis to examine the correlates of overall satisfaction with undergraduate education for white, Asian American, Hispanic and African American seniors enrolled at 17 research-extensive universities. Satisfaction with the overall quality of instruction and social involvement were the strongest predictors of overall satisfaction for all seniors. The predictive importance of other measures of the academic experience, social integration and performance varied both within and across race groups. Findings argue for adopting a variety of strategies to address the needs of different segments of the undergraduate population. (Contains 5 figures and 3 tables.)
