Learning Standards for Health, Physical Education, and Home Economics at Three Levels.
New York State Education Dept., Albany.
These New York State performance standards focus on: (1) personal health and fitness (students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain personal health); (2) a safe and healthy environment (students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment); and (3) resource management (students will understand and be able to manage their personal and community resources). These standards are to be achieved via health education, physical education, and home economics classes. Each standard is described for three levels: elementary, intermediate, and commencement. In each area, the standards present key ideas, performance indicators, and sample tasks. Samples of student work are included to help begin the process of articulating the performance standards at each level of achievement. (SM)
