Campbell, Sarah vL.
This document is intended to create an opportunity for teens and adults to talk together and find ways to make their community a place where young people can grow up successfully. The discussion guide begins with a brief statement of purpose and a brief explanation of study circles and their objectives. The remainder of the guide consists of discussion materials for four 2-hour study circle sessions. Each session outline contains some or all of the following elements: a session goal; an introduction; facilitator tips; an outline of points to be covered in the session; discussion questions; and wrap-up questions. The study circle session topics are as follows: (1) what it's like to be a young person in the community; (2) how young people in the community are doing; (3) how the community can be transformed into a better place for young people; and (4) how study circle participants can move from words to action. The following items are appended: a list of ideas for action; a comparison of dialogue and debate; tips for study circle participants; tips for study circle facilitators; note taking tips; suggestions for involving young people in study circles; ways of moving from dialogue to action; and guidelines for making and using a fact sheet.
