Math for Learning, Math for Life: An Annotated Bibliography.

This document presents a total of 109 references and annotations of works that are in some way related to the topic of math for learning and life. Section 1 presents 68 annotated references with keywords drawn from the Canadian Literacy Thesaurus. Selected topics covered in the listed publications are as follows: numeracy as social practice; the mathematics syllabus and adult learners in community colleges; the connection between mathematics and reading; numeracy practices of young unemployed people; mathematics for empowerment; developing financial literacy programs for adults; new ways of teaching mathematics; using software applications to teach math; numeracy in English-as-a-second-language classrooms; Paulo Freire's legacy for adults learning mathematics; using Internet-based resources in math instruction; assessing adult learners' mathematical knowledge; national strategies for improving adult literacy and numeracy skills; numeracy, literacy, self-confidence, and values; family numeracy; systemic needs of adult numeracy education; instructional strategies for teaching adult numeracy; accommodating math students with learning disabilities; critical numeracy for adults; teaching to the math standards with adult learners; numeracy in the workplace; and enhancing talk, language, and conceptual development in adult mathematics and numeracy classes. Section 2 lists 32 readings recommended by participants.
