This book is intended as a source for those who desire to apply a coherent system of instructional design, thereby insuring accountability. Chapter 1 covers the instructional design process, including: instructional technology; the role of evaluation; goal setting; the psychology of teaching and learning; task analysis; operational objectives; learner activities; the role of media; procuring media; pedagogical progress; and normative-referenced vs. criterion-referenced evaluation. Chapter 2 discusses perception and visual literacy. Chapter 3 addresses learner analysis, including the following components: sensory-motor, symbol manipulation, spatial relationships, oral communication skills, personal identity, cultural determinants, and interactional-transactional patterns. Chapter 4 focuses on layout and design. Chapter 5 discusses the World Wide Web, including hypertext and hypermedia, browsers, streaming, HTML, search engines, intuitive usage, Internet Service Providers, servers and Web hosting, Java and JavaScript, and integration of the Web into instructional design. Chapter 6 addresses e-learning, including challenges, efficacy, and the national educational technology plan.
