Juvenile Arrests, 2000. Juvenile Justice Bulletin.
Snyder, Howard N.
This bulletin examines the national and state juvenile arrest rate in 2000 using data reported annually by local law enforcement agencies nationwide to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting program. Results indicate that the murder rate in 2000 was the lowest since 1965; juvenile arrests for violence in 2000 were the lowest since 1988; few juveniles were arrested for violent crimes; juvenile arrests for property crimes in 2000 were the lowest in at least 3 decades; most arrested juveniles were referred to court; in 2000, 28 percent of juvenile arrests were arrests of females; females were a larger proportion of juvenile arrests in early teens; juvenile arrests disproportionately involved minorities; and the juvenile contribution to crime has declined.
