This book is a guide to writing measurable goals and objectives for individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Part 1 discusses appropriate goals, objectives, and benchmarks (GO/Bs). Accompanied by many examples, the text discusses measurability, non-measurability, vagueness versus specificity, almost measurable objectives, and myths of measurability. Questions and answers about student educational objectives from the IDEA regulations are attached. Part 2 provides specific guidance for writing GO/Bs. Discussion addresses the larger perspective of GO/Bs, the writing process, statements of present levels of performance (PLOPs), writing GO/Bs based on PLOPs, writing measurable GO/Bs, annual goals and factors in projecting the annual goal, moving the childs performance from PLOP to the annual goal, and combining the PLOP, objectives/benchmarks, and goals on the IEP form. Part 3 provides sample PLOPs, objectives, and goals. A matrix of PLOPs/Objectives/Goals is followed by 75 sample PLOPs, objectives, and goals. (DB)
