Community Guide to Evaluating Aboriginal Healing Foundation Activity.
Aboriginal Healing Foundation, Ottawa (Ontario).
The Aboriginal Healing Foundation (AHF), based in Ottawa (Ontario), works with Canada Native communities to reduce incidents of physical and sexual abuse, children in care, suicide, and incarceration among residential school survivors and their families. This guide has been prepared to help communities evaluate their AHF-funded activities in the hope that community-based evaluation of AHF-funded activities will strengthen their ability to secure funding from other sources beyond the life of the Foundation. The guide provides an easy-to-use way to determine how projects can get desired results through the creation of performance maps, which put the main elements of the evaluation plan on one page. These elements are the mission statement, why the project is being undertaken, what is expected to happen, who is expected to be influenced, what activities will help achieve the desired results, how to determine that change has occurred, how that change will be measured, how much things have changed, and who else sees the change. Logical thinking about the link between activities and long-term goals is encouraged. How to collect and make sense of the information using a holistic approach is discussed, as well as how to report the results and package this information into a "to do" list for those responsible for evaluation at the project level. Three appendices present a logic model, survey development guidelines, and a survey form for participant satisfaction with the AHF project. (TD)
