This book is a compatible instructional component to any algebra textbook and was developed by University of Hawaii under the Dwight D. Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Education Improvement Act. The tasks align with the content and instructional approach used in daily classes that emphasize standards-based teaching and learning. The tasks include problem solving, manipulatives, and open-ended questions that let students demonstrate their understanding in different ways. Each topic has multiple labs that can be used at points throughout related chapters giving students the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the concepts or to bridge concepts to skills. Some labs use manipulatives such as algebra tiles or graphing calculators. Each lab includes a problem solving experience.
