This document contains 16 issues of the first 5 years of a newsletter encouraging collaborative research and informed policy on welfare reform and focusing on the use of an on-line database of child welfare research projects, as well as research and policy issues related to implementation studies, indicators of well-being, and administrative data. The newsletter was published quarterly the first year and three times yearly in subsequent years. Each issue focuses on a particular topic: (1) time limits on receipt of welfare benefits (January 1998); (2) evaluating welfare reform (May 1998); (3) financial incentives to move families off welfare (September 1998); (4) teen parent program evaluations (December 1998); (5) large-scale welfare waiver experiments and national research efforts (March 1999); (6) effects of welfare reform on children (July 1999); (7) the value of program implementation research (November 1999); (8) the role of administrative data and national data sets in understanding welfare reform (March 2000); (9) the role of the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program in welfare reform (July 2000); (10) the Next Generation Project, a research partnership to examined the effects of welfare and employment practices on low-income children (November 2000); (11) diversity among welfare leavers and stayers (March 2001); (12) barriers to economic security among women TANF participants (August 2001); (13) research needs of advocates (November 2001); (14) research needs regarding children in immigrant families (February 2002); (15) former welfare recipients facing unemployment (May 2002); and (16) relative caregivers in the child-only component of the TANF caseload (September 2002).
