Teaching Technology: A How-To-Do-It Manual for Librarians. How-To-Do-It Manuals for Librarians.
Brandt, D. Scott
The purpose of this book is to introduce innovative educational concepts and techniques to help librarians and other information professionals create technology learning courses, sessions, workshops, and modules. The book applies the concepts of instructional systems design (ISD) to designing courses, or parts of courses, for instruction on information technology and information literacy. The ADDIE formula--analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation--is adapted to provide a guide to the five main steps of systematically developing technology courses from scratch. The book is divided into three parts. Part 1, Developing Technology Training Courses Using ADDIE, follows the formula step-by-step: it looks closely at analyzing learning, designing blueprints, developing instruction, implementing the teaching and eventually evaluating the results. A separate chapter is dedicated to each of the five steps, giving details on each one and describing how they inter-relate. Part 2, Building Effective Technology Training Programs, contains three chapters that discuss the overall program--how to build one, how to make it work, and how several actual programs have succeeded. Part 3, Sample Technology Training Materials from Successful Programs, offers a variety of useful, hands-on resources. Each chapter starts with a set of objectives for learning. Includes an index.
