Action Research: A Practical Guide for Transforming Your School Library.
Sykes, Judith A.
This book shows teacher-librarians and school library media specialists how to perform qualitative research and use the results effectively to promote the school library and build a shared understanding of the impact of school libraries on student learning. Hands-on guidance is provided for performing action research, including how to establish the context, emphasize the main issue, set goals, create a plan, use tools and techniques for gathering data, involve others, perform a solid analysis, and draw conclusions from the data. The first part of the book presents an outline of the key elements of the action research process. Tips are given throughout for adapting the process to schools, and additional chapters suggest strategies for developing a school library vision and a third-grade project. The second part of the book includes materials for a ready-made presentation that readers can either deliver by making overhead transparencies or by using the CD-ROM included with the book, which features a complete PowerPoint presentation. Includes an index. (Contains 89 references.) (AEF)
