Gabler, Ina Claire; Schroeder, Michael
This book provides a preservice training program across all secondary subjects by grounding a constructivist approach in seven discrete instructional areas. There are 15 modules in four sections. Section 1, "Constructivist Ideology," includes (1) "The Nature of Teaching and Learning." Section 2, "How-To's," includes (2) "Prelude to Lesson Planning," (3) "Planning Professional Lessons," (4) "Questioning Skills," (5) "Peer-Group Learning," and (6) "Technology in Your Practice." Section 3, "Constructivist Methods," includes (7) "Investigating Learners' Previous Experiences (ILPE) Method," (8) "Teaching Concepts," (9) "The Directed Discussion Method," (10) "The Exploratory Discussion Method," (11) "The Reflective Discussion Method," and (12) "The Interactive Presentation Method." Section 4, "Putting it All Together," includes (13) "Unit Planning," (14) "Assessment in a Constructivist Classroom," and (15) "Resocializing." Three appendixes prevent INTASC standards and sample unit plans. Modules contain an overview, goals, discussion, focal points, review, suggested readings, hands-on practice, and references. (SM)
