This book offers resources for resiliency education and an action plan for building inner strength and flexibility in students and staff. Eight chapters include: (1) "Resiliency Defined" (e.g., risk research versus resiliency and using the six-step resiliency wheel); (2) "How Schools Foster Resiliency in Students" (e.g., relationships and resiliency building and applying the six steps of the resiliency wheel in schools); (3) "Resilient Students Need Resilient Educators" (e.g., educators as role models and factors inhibiting educator resiliency); (4) "Characteristics of Resiliency-Building Schools" (e.g., factors inhibiting the development of resiliency-building schools and the six resiliency-building factors); (5) "Changing Schools to Build Resiliency" (understanding the status quo and deciding what to change); (6) "The Change Process in Action" (e.g., the Albuquerque Public Schools Early Opportunities Project and informal information sharing); (7) "Resiliency Building in Practice" (e.g., school vision and mission statements and incentive programs for all students); and (8) "Tools to Facilitate Change" (tools for assessing the current state, promoting change and building commitment, and evaluating efforts and successes).
