This report describes a new approach to teaching science, math, and technology to students, especially girls, with disabilities, who frequently do not have access to appropriate instruction in these critical areas for future academic success. Many specific suggestions, along with a sample lesson that can be used immediately, are presented as part of a total instructional model that stresses best practices in science and math education, gender equity, cultural relevance, and inclusionary education. Other related resources, such as a case study and related Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives are also provided for both regular and special educators as illustrations of how to teach science, math, and technology effectively to students with disabilities in elementary and middle school classrooms. The report begins by describing findings from two National Science Foundation Projects, Daughters with Disabilities," and Sisters in Science," designed to encourage more girls with disabilities to prepare for careers in science, math, and technology. The professional literature is reviewed and then a sample lesson is provided. Appendices include lesson worksheets, suggestions, and examples of Individualized Education Program goals and objectives.
