The chapters in this volume are based on papers presented at Colorado State University, in June 1997, at a conference on finding ways to integrate American Indian community goals, needs, and traditions with mainstream science and science education. The book's core message is that two extreme opinions, are present in society--that science has nothing of value to offer Indian people and that Indian cultures have nothing to offer science--are, though held by different groups, both wrong.
