A view of construction from the window of a first-grade classroom was the catalyst for a multi-grade, multidisciplinary curriculum project at St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School in Washington, DC. This article provides background information on the school and the project, and details the students' work. The project description includes how the project gradually came to encompass teachers and children throughout the school; the teacher's colleagues in technology, science, art, religion, and music as well as children in the nursery school, kindergarten, and grades 5 and 6 worked with the first-grade students on different portions of the project.
