This annual report of the Community Colleges of Arizona for Fiscal Year (FY) 2000-2001 offers individual statistics from each of the 10 community college districts in the state. Facts for the state system include the following: (1) the annual full-time equivalent enrollment for FY 2000-2001 was 97,588, the unduplicated headcount was 349,278, and the credit headcount for fall 2000 was 174,632; (2) 56% of students were female, 62% were white, non-Hispanic; 19% were Hispanic; 4% were black, non-Hispanic; 4% were American Indian or Alaskan Native; and 3% were Pacific Islander; (3) the instructional staff was 24% full time and 76% part time; and (4) district funds totaled $734 million from all sources, and expenditures totaled $756 million. Discussion sessions addressed the issue of dual enrollment, including national perspectives on the issue, the benefits of dual enrollment, funding issues pertaining to the public perception of "double dipping," and remedies developed to address the issues. The Board adopted the following action statements for 2001-2002: to sponsor/advocate a statewide initiative to address the coming critical shortage of K-12 teachers; to sponsor/advocate a statewide initiative to address the coming critical shortage of healthcare professionals; to improve the efficiency of the rule-making process; and to review community college district budgets and to fix tuition and fees.
