InfoQuest: A New Twist on Information Literacy.
Milam, Peggy S.
This book is a comprehensive guide to implementing the InfoQuest program in libraries, schools, and school library media centers. In the InfoQuest program, a research question is posed each week, and students have all week to come to the media center and use a variety of reference tools and media to research the answer. Small prizes are awarded to the students who have researched the answer correctly. The book is arranged in three parts: Perspective, Philosophy, and Practice. The Perspective section deals with what information literacy is, why it should be taught, information literacy standards, and the current state of information literacy in education. The Philosophy section describes the how-to's: how to teach information literacy more effectively, how to ask higher-order questions, and how to teach InfoQuest itself. The Practice section provides questions and answers by subject (i.e., words, mathematics, science, quotations, literature, geography, history, and biography) and level as well as assessment tools for tracking the progress of the participants. Each chapter in this section includes additional references for individualizing InfoQuest programs. (Contains an index and 91 references.) (MES)
