The 12 chapters include the following: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "What Successful Language Learners Do"; (3) "Cultural Aspects of Language and Communication"; (4) "Motivation"; (5) "Learning Styles"; (6) "Setting Goals and Learning Objectives"; (7) "A Learning Plan for Any Topic"; (8) "Using a Language Learning Notebook"; (9) "Assessing Progress"; (10) "Learning with a Language Helper"; (11) "Using a Tape Recorder"; and (12)"Suggestions and Strategies for Communication" (listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary building and memorization, grammar, and pronunciation). The six appendixes include the Language Learner's Proficiency Scale, Betsy's Story: A Tea Time Lesson, common questions about language learning, formal language notebook pages, and a blank daily grid.
