Gulf Coast Consortium Standard Student Survey: System Analysis Spring 2000 Student Survey.

This report presents the results of the Houston Community College System's (HCCS's) (Texas) year 2000 Student Survey. Highlights include: (1) 63% of students surveyed were female, and more than 67% of students surveyed lived in households of 2 to 4 individuals; (2) the ethnic/racial makeup of the sampled students is almost evenly divided among the 3 major ethnic groups/racial groups in the geographic area--Caucasians 27%, Hispanics 26%, and African Americans 25%; (3) the mean age of students surveyed was 28 years, and the median age was 24 years; (4) almost 70% of students reported that they were employed off campus, in either full- or part-time positions; (5) approximately 37% of students reported an annual household income equal to or exceeding $33,460, while almost 15% reported a yearly household income of $8,050 or less; (6) approximately 51% of students indicated that they were first-generation college attendees; and (7) slightly more than 50% of students indicated a desire to transfer either to the University of Houston-Downtown or the University of Houston-University Park. Results of the survey were presented as System totals as well as being broken down into the five System campuses: Central, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest. (NB)
