This annual report for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) describes the programs and services provided by this organization in 1993. Following an introduction by UNICEF's executive director, the report reviews regional developments in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, South Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe, and "emergency countries"--those experiencing war or natural disasters. Specific programs in the following areas are then described: (1) the Convention on the Rights of the Child; (2) child health; (3) nutrition; (4) safe motherhood and family planning; (5) children in especially difficult circumstances; (6) sustainable development and the environment; (7) water and environmental sanitation; (8) urban basic services; (9) education; (10) women in development; (11) management of supplies; and (12) program evaluation. Concluding sections discuss UNICEF's tools for advocacy (publications and communications projects), committees and organizations, and resources (financial, informational, and human).
