Washington Kids Count County and City Profiles of Child and Family Well-Being: 2001 Statewide Summaries.
Hill, Sheri L.; Malhotra, Sumit; De Wys, Shelley; Mandell, Dorothy J.; Brandon, Richard
These 43 Kids Count summaries, one for each of the state's counties, major metropolitan areas, and the state as a whole, examine trends in the well-being of Washington's children. The summaries each reiterate key statewide trends in the areas of education, child maltreatment, housing affordability, and employment levels, as well as family structure. The summaries then present data for their respective county for the following key indicators: 4th-grade math and reading achievement; child abuse and neglect; inadequate prenatal care; low birth weight; asthma hospitalizations; housing affordability, annual child care costs; average annual wages; and unemployment rate. Whether the data show improvement, worsening, or no change from earlier assessments is also noted. (HTH)
