Reducing Tobacco Use: A Report of the Surgeon General [and] Executive Summary.

This report offers a composite review of methods used to prevent tobacco use. The report evaluates five approaches currently used to reduce tobacco consumption: educational, clinical, regulatory, economic, and comprehensive approaches. The report explains these approaches in terms of the larger context of tobacco control and provides a vision for the future of tobacco use prevention and control based on available tools and resources. The report contains special sections on the management of nicotine addiction, regulatory efforts such as advertising, economic interventions, comprehensive programs, global efforts, and elimination of health disputes.
