The Learning Festivals Guide. An Internationally-Produced Communication Tool in Support of the Launch of the International Adult Learners' Week.
Martinez, Francisca, Ed.; Weil, Markus, Ed.
International Literacy Day (ILD) has been celebrated since 1967 and has been the focus of learning festivals held over the years by different countries to recognize adult learners across the world. This guide was developed to strengthen ILD, to share the experiences of educators from around the world who have seen the value of using promotional campaigns to encourage learning by all, to inspire more countries to join the movement and contribute to the experience, and to foster International Adult Learners' Week. Following an introductory section and synopsis of ILD and Adult Learners Week in 10 countries, the guide contains nine sections of information on how to hold a learning festival. The sections cover the following topics: (1) planning events; (2) media; (3) learners' voices; (4) publicity; (5) partnerships; (6) helplines; (7) sponsorship; (8) evaluation; and (9) ten top tips. A final section of the paper includes contacts, information, and acknowledgments. (KC)
