For 30 years, the Academy for Educational Development (AED) has worked to support African development. In Uganda, Tanzania, and Botswana AED promoted some of Africa's first AIDS prevention programs. AED is funding research in Ethiopia, Tanzania, and perhaps Zambia that will target stigma and its role in AIDS prevention. Working with governments and the private sector AED has supported programs that saved millions of children from illness and malnutrition. In education, AED has pioneered work on girls education and on educational reform. Working with the Kellogg Foundation, AED is supporting the development of a regional leadership network for the countries of southern Africa, including South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Swaziland. This booklet presents a brief overview of 35 AED projects and programs in Africa, demonstrating the breadth of technical collaboration with governments and non-governmental organizations across the continent.
