Designed for youth programs, funders, policymakers, and researchers, this workbook is a tool and a resource on effective practices for youth employment and development. It is a product of the Promising and Effective Practices Network (PEPNet), which offers a knowledge base of effective strategies and approaches, opportunities for professional development and networking, and a capacity-building process of self-assessment and continuous improvement. A PEPNet registration form is provided as the entry point to PEPNet and access to PEPNet's materials, network, and information. An introduction presents background, context, goals, resources, and benefits of PEPNet. It discusses how youth initiatives, funders, policymakers, and others can benefit from PEPNet. The PEPNet improvement process for programs provides a step-by-step explanation of PEPNet's continuous improvement cycle for program development. The section with PEPNet criteria for effective practices explains PEPNet's 22 Criteria, based on research and practice. The PEPNet self-assessment follows. Staff of a youth initiative can use this set of questions at any time to diagnose its quality. Programs may apply for designation as PEPNet Builders after completing the self-assessment.
