A Structural Equation Model To Investigate the Delivery of Child Sex Abuse Services as a Consequence of Attitude, Locus of Control, and the Work Setting.
Ferrara, F. Felicia
A structural equation model was proposed to explore influencing factors that may contribute to school psychologists' role inhibition versus progressive pursuits towards the delivery of child sex abuse services. Three work-related variables (attitude, locus of control, work-setting demands) were examined to assess their impact on the initiatives that a school psychologist might take towards students in need. A national sample of 200 school psychologists were surveyed using the Child Sex Abuse Attitude Scale, the work locus of control scale, and questions pertaining to work setting demands. Four comparative models were analyzed: (1) a priori model indicating 3 exogenous and 2 endogenous variables; (2) alternate model proposing reciprocal relationships; (3) a sensitivity model and (4) the null model. The models were examined for the influencing variables that may contribute to school psychologists' progressive pursuit versus role inhibition when dealing with the emotional laden issues of child sexual abuse. The a priori model generated the best model fit. Implications for developing curriculum for professional training are discussed. (Contains 1 figure, 1 table, and 46 references.) (Author/JDM)
