Because most military children will be enrolled in public schools at some point, an understanding of military children can assist educators in working with such children and, more broadly, with mobile children from other backgrounds. Following an introduction providing information on the numbers of military children and their unique issues, this fastback describes some of the challenges posed by high mobility as seen in the military child population, including those related to calendars and schedules, school records, classes and credits, state testing, and emotional needs. The fastback then suggests strategies, such as local and institutional partnerships, that educators can use to assist military children in building their capacity for adaptability.
