A research study conducted by a classroom teacher explored the question of to what extent increased parent involvement through increased parent-teacher communication will act as a motivating factor for students in a seventh-grade reading classroom and whether this will relate positively to student success in reading. Parents and children took turns reading to each other for a minimum of five minutes a night, three times per week for eight weeks. Finds an overall positive effect--students did more of their homework, and received good quiz and test scores. By these more positive actions, the level of success was raised for the class in general. Also, parents' comments on surveys were all positive.
