Learn To Read with Arthur: A Teacher's Guide for Beginning Readers.
Dyer, Nancy
This guide offers beginning reading activities for kindergarten and first grade students for classroom or home use, based on the "Arthur" books and the Public Broadcasting System program. Incorporating both whole-language and phonetic techniques, the activities are organized into four general themes: (1) "All about Arthur"; (2) "Arthur and His Family"; (3) Arthur and His Friends"; and (4) "Arthur's Neighborhood. Each section provides a range of activities that will support, develop, and improve early literacy skills, including the following: (1) reading comprehension; (2) reading fluency; (3) word study; and (4) writing. Each activity includes information on needed materials, teacher preparation and directions, reading tips, suggested "Arthur" books and programs, and other suggested book titles. The "Arthur's Art" section contains artwork for use in the activities. "Arthur" episode descriptions and "Arthur" resources complete the guide. (KB)
