Analyzing Teachers' Expectations of the Headteacher's Roles at an Arab-Bedouin Elementary School in South of Israel.
Rantissi, George
Thirty-five teachers (20 females and 15 males) from a total of 60 were chosen via random sample to answer a closed-end questionnaire. The role-statements were obtained from the official Israeli document listing the 19 roles of the headteacher. The questionnaire examined the following questions in relation to the gender of the teachers: (1) To what extent do the headteachers fulfill their official roles? (2) To what extent do the teachers expect the headteachers to fulfill these roles? Results reveal that both male and female teaches noted their dissatisfaction of the headteacher's fulfillment of the official roles, and there were no significant differences between the male and female teachers' perception concerning their expectations of the fulfillment of these roles. Most male teachers cited the importance of academic skills to effect the headteacher's fulfillment of the official roles, while most female teachers noted having professional skills as the important source to effect the fulfillment of the roles.
