The New Castle County Vocational-Technical School District in Wilmington, Delaware, has made great strides in integrating academic and vocational studies by adopting a "project" approach to integrated learning. Students at the district's high schools are involved in a variety of real-life projects aimed at advancing technical knowledge and skills. Delcastle Technical High School has developed the following three projects integrating academic and vocational studies: exploratory manual (students produce exploratory manuals while exploring career opportunities and developing job search skills); senior magazine project (students develop "trade" journals in their field of study); and cooperative work manual (students develop technical English skills by producing manuals documenting their work in their chosen occupational field). Seniors at Hodgson Vocational-Technical High School complete a senior project exhibition of achievement that combines the following elements: student-centered, career based research paper; applied product; and formal oral presentation before an audience. Howard High School of Technology's students complete a 4-year work experience called Quest for Quality, which helps them develop academic, personal, and group interaction skills.
