Alberta Learning, Edmonton. Direction de l'education francaise.
The materials in this document discuss the Alberta (Canada) public school curriculum for French immersion instruction for 5-year olds in preschool, intended for implementation in September 2000. The first part outlines the rationale and organization of the curriculum model and its five guiding principles. The second part describes the seven targeted areas of instruction (personal and social responsibility, French as a second language, appreciation of the French language, physical abilities and well-being, sensitivity to the community and environment, expression of artistic appreciation, mathematics) and anticipated results; outlines the organization of the curriculum within each of these areas; and discusses how the home, school, and community resources can be used to support French language learning and use.
