This volume and its companion, "Part 2," bring together transactions of the Rasch measurement special interest group of the American Educational Research Association. This volume opens with a discussion of the early years in Rasch measurement and then presents the "transactions" in chronological order, from a 1987 discussion through the winter 1992 volume. Four issues of the "Transactions" are presented for each of volumes 1 through 5 in this book. Volumes 6 through 8 are in Part 2. The Table of Contents lists articles by author and volume, and an author index is included. Individual articles contain tables and figures, but the 172 references are grouped. (SLD)
