Assessment as Inquiry: Learning the Hypothesis-Test Process.
Stephens, Diane, Ed.; Story, Jennifer, Ed.
This book presents a new method for English Language Arts teachers to assess student learning using authentic assessment techniques. It instructs on the implementation of the processes of Hypothesizing and Testing on a one-on-one basis, in order to better understand how children learn. Section 1 ("What Is the Hypothesis-Test Process?") presents an introduction and overview, explaining the background and procedure of the HT process. The second section ("Learning HT One-on-One") contains four student case studies. Section 3 ("Learning from One-on-One: HT in the Classroom") focuses on the teacher and HT use for the entire class. Section 3 also presents an introduction, teacher case studies, and reflections on HT as inquiry. An afterword by Diane Stephens and Jennifer Story is attached. (EF)
