This manuscript presents a chronological interview recently conducted with Dr. C.H. Patterson, a pioneer in the area of person-centered counseling and counselor education. It details many of the serendipitous events that led him from a child of poverty to a life rich in academic achievements and social rewards. This interview details many of his contributions to the counseling and educational literature, as well as his early life influences, including that of Carl Rogers. Dr. Patterson's views on person-centered counseling and psychotherapy, based on Rogers' philosophy, are still widely debated. This chronicle of the life experiences of C.H. Patterson provides a context for understanding his support of the person-centered approach, as well as an insight into his significant life events. (JDM)
