Kids' Stuff: A Workbook about Children Who Are Special in Different Ways.
Wasserman, Burt G.
This workbook is designed to help children deal with issues they might be forced to confront because of certain circumstances in their lives. These are often tough issues that deal with strong emotions. Children who are hurting emotionally often have to deal with life issues before they have attained the developmental level where they would normally be equipped to do so. A second purpose of this book is to familiarize all children with these difficult issues, which are usually dealt with by parents, counselors, and teachers. Therefore, this workbook is also meant as a prevention tool. Written for parents, teachers, and counselors, this workbook is to be used with children from the ages of 6 to 12. It aims to prepare some children to be more tolerant and empathic to children who are different from them. For other children, it provides coping strategies to deal with the life stresses they may be experiencing. Because of the variety of issues addressed, this workbook can also be used by counselors as a screening tool to get individual children talking about subjects that previously have not been discussed. Includes sections on family changes, adoption, disabilities, learning difficulties, race, death, hyperactivity, anger, nightmares, and fears. (GCP)
