Daley-Harris, Shannon
This booklet provides resource materials for the National Observance of Children's Sabbaths, a weekend of worship, education, outreach, and advocacy that proclaims and responds to a faith-based call to meet the needs of children. The theme of 1999's Children's Sabbath focuses on getting all children ready to learn and succeed. The booklet's sections are: (1) "Welcome to the National Observance of Children's Sabbaths," which provides background information on the movement; (2) "Messages and Endorsements," including letters from Marian Wright Edelman, president of the Children's Defense Fund; Rev. Dr. Joan Brown Campbell; Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland, OSB; Rabbi Eric Yoffie; and a list of organizations endorsing the Children's Sabbath; (3) "Planning and Promoting Your Children's Sabbath," including a planning guide, media release, bulletin insert, and clip art; (4) "Christian Worship and Education Resources," including liturgies, sermon resources, and lesson plans; (5) "Jewish Shabbat and Education Resources," including an Erev Shabbat service, a sample sermon, and lesson plans; (6) "Interfaith Worship Resources," including liturgical suggestions and resources for interfaith children's sabbaths; (7) "Activity Ideas for All Faiths"; and (8) "Follow Up Actions and Resources for All Faiths," including an evaluation form.
