When You Don't Know What To Do...Problem Solve! Vermont High School Mathematics Portfolio Task Book.
Vermont Inst. for Science, Math, and Technology, Waterbury Center.
This document is concerned with developing an understanding of problem solving by providing tasks to help students with their problem solving strategies. These tasks were used by Vermont teachers during the pilot years of the High School Mathematics Assessment and were selected by attendees of the June, 1995 Research Scoring meeting. Tasks are organized in alphabetical order by title. Each task is followed by information about the task, a list of the primary content clusters covered by the task, a list of the mathematics opportunities provided by the task, a note describing how teachers might fit the task into their curriculum, and a solution including an answer and possible approach to the problem.
