Department/Division Data Book, 1993-1997: Fall WSCH Trends and Staffing Patterns.
Prather, George
This data book presents statistical data relating fall weekly student contact hours (WSCH) per full-time equivalent faculty (FTEF), from 1993-1997, by discipline, for each of the Los Angeles Community College District's nine colleges. Introductory comments indicate that between 1981 and 1997, faculty engaged in instruction declined from over 2,700 full-time equivalents to just over 2,100. The report tracks WSCH, FTEF, and the WSCH/FTEF ratio from 1993 through 1997. ESL, PACE, GAIN, and some other special classes within the various disciplines have been identified for organizational purposes. All WSCH figures shown in tables, and those used for the calculation of WSCH/FTEF, include positive attendance and daily school contact hour (DSCH) type classes. Noncredit classes and apprenticeship courses are tracked in this report, and are shown under their appropriate departments or divisions. The intent of this report is not only to show trends on selected variables, but also to facilitate the positing of "what if" questions such as the production of WSCH at various levels of faculty FTE and WSCH per FTEF ratios.
