By identifying the best and most current sites for educators on the World Wide Web, this award-winning and internationally acclaimed guide is designed to help educators and their students find the information they need quickly and easily. The book also allows educators to integrate the Internet into the curriculum and build valuable online research skills in students. Included are 1,497 high-quality educational sites that educators can put to immediate use. In this edition, approximately 400 listings are completely new or significantly updated. Multicultural and gender-balanced sites abound, and there is also a new chapter on reference materials. New sites range from free electronic journals and a violence prevention guide for youth to those appropriate for school-to-work programs. Arranged by subject area to facilitate educational applications, the annotations emphasize curriculum connections. Some provide literature links or refer to national educational standards. This directory is divided into 11 chapters, each addressing a different area of the K-12 curriculum. Two chapters, "Resources for Educators" and "The School Library: The School Information Resource Center" contain professional information as well as lesson plans and general information specific to education, K-12 schools, and the school library media center. The "Reference" chapter focuses on resources that can be used across the curriculum. Clear directions for access are given for each resource.
