This volume is designed to provide corrections practitioners with basic staff training on the needs of those with mental illness and impairments in our correctional systems. Chapter titles are: (1) "Mental Illness in the Correctional Setting"; (2) "Substance Use Disorders"; (3) "Problems with Mood"; (4) "Problems with Thinking"; (5) "Problems with Nervousness and Fear"; (6) "Other Mental Illnesses"; (7) "The Causes of Mental Illness"; (8) "The Biological Treatments of Mental Illness"; (9) "Nonmedical Treatments of Mental Illness: Psychotherapy and Rehabilitation"; (10) "Preventing Mental Illness"; and (11) "The Inmate's Perspective: Walking in Someone Else's Shoes." A list of suggestions for further reading is included. The appendix contains four tables listing common antipsychotic, antianxiety, antidepressant, and mood stabilizing medications along with their generic and trade names, usual dosage, and major side effects.
