Family Resource Coalition Report, v17 n2-3 Sum-Fall 1998
This report of the Family Resource Coalition of America examines partnerships between family support programs and health care providers, forged to ensure that the comprehensive needs of families are met. The report begins with two articles, "Family Support and the Emerging Health System" and "Social and Economic Issues Affecting Health--A Research-Based Argument for Family Support," which examine how family support and health care are linked. The second section presents three articles on improving access to health care: "How Your Program Can Help Get Coverage for Children"; "HMOs, MediCAL, and Bureaucracy-How My Program Helps Families"; and "What Families with Chronic Illness Need." Articles in the third section address linking pediatricians with family support: "Pediatricians as Family Support Partners"; and "Linking Pediatric Care with Family Support--How One Center Does It." The fourth section presents three articles on families as health care partners: "Parent to Parent--Help for Parents and Professionals"; "Mothers Mentor Teens as Paraprofessionals"; and "How I Got Involved in Allocating Health Care Funds." Articles in the fifth section address public policy to promote healthy families: "How States Can Remove Barriers to Health Care"; "CHIP of Virginia--A State Network Links Family Support with Health Care Services for the Young"; and "State Health Dollars Fund Family Support in Oklahoma." Finally, the sixth section presents articles addressing building healthy communities: "Montana Coalition Promotes Health and Quality of Life"; "Families Train Health Care Professionals in Family-Centered Practice"; "Alaska Nursing Students Forge Community Partnerships"; and "Asian Americans Get Culturally Supportive Care in Denver."
