This guide for parents provides information on the early intervention program in New York for infants and toddlers with disabilities. It includes information on: (1) eligibility requirements for early intervention services; (2) symptoms that may indicate infants or toddlers have a disability; (3) the importance of parent participation in seeking early intervention services; (4) steps for being an effective parent advocate; (5) types of services available under the early intervention program; (6) referral of a child to the early intervention program by a parent, doctor, or other health care provider; (7) the role of the service coordinator; (8) the evaluation of infants and toddlers for early intervention services; (9) the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP); (10) review of the IFSP at least every six months; (11) transition of a child in the early intervention program to a preschool program with services; (12) parent and student rights, mediation, impartial hearings, and attorney fees; (13) confidentiality and student records; and (14) the history of the early intervention program.
