This resource, designed to help school library media specialists select the most exciting, curriculum-related literature for teachers and students in grades 5-9, contains approximately 300 contemporary and classic fiction and non-fiction titles selected on the basis of the quality of writing, interest level, appropriateness of illustration (if any), and current availability. In addition, all of the titles have strong connections to the middle school curriculum and lend themselves to educational extensions. Chapters cover: biographies; English--classics; English usage; fine arts; recent releases; high interest/low reading level material; mathematics; multicultural literature; myths, folktales, and legends; poetry; read-alouds; science; U.S. history; ancient and early cultures; sports and games; and unique presentations. Complete bibliographic information and annotations are included for each title. Curriculum links are noted for each book, and a reference chart lists all titles with their pertinent curriculum categories. An author-title index is included. (DLS)
