This report addresses the interface between school and home and how this relationship needs to be addressed sensitively and effectively. Part 1 discusses how adult education strategies aimed at parents of children suffering discrimination and at those exerting prejudices through mechanisms of socialization of these children could play a crucial role in overcoming xenophobia and intolerance and emphasizes the school's role as the forum for socialization. Part 2 addresses contextual factors affecting the home-school interface and a triple jeopardy of social, economic, and political marginalization being passed on to successive generations in the minority ethnic and migrant communities. It recommends a "Learning to Live in a Multicultural Society: Adult Education and Training Network." The aim of this network would be to help participants adapt good practice to their local circumstances and to develop policy recommendations. Next, a strategic framework for action with three strands: strategies for organizational change and development; strategies to achieve equality of opportunity for individuals from minority ethnic communities; and community development/capacity building is presented. Part 3 offers European perspectives and case studies on home-school liaison from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany to show the fundamental structural differences. Case studies are also provided for the Pontian Greeks and Tuscany. Part 4 lists ideas to develop good practice in home-school liaison and training ideas for improving home-school liaison. (YLB)
