Enhancing Teaching and Learning: A Leadership Guide for School Library Media Specialists.
Donham, Jean
This guide demonstrates strategic ways of developing and implementing successful library media programs and offers step- by-step strategies for achieving a balance between leadership and collaboration. The book is divided into two parts. Part I: "The Environment" addresses the components of the school environment--the students, curriculum and instruction, principal, school district, and community. A separate chapter is devoted to each of these five components in order to show how the library media program can interact with these elements to enhance learning. Part II: "The Library Media Program" addresses specific strategies that may be particularly helpful in allowing the library media program to go beyond being a warehouse to being an active player in teaching and learning. Chapters include: "Collaborative Planning"; "Scheduling Library Media Activities"; "Collection"; "Literacy"; "Technology"; "Information Literacy"; "Assessment of Student Work"; and Program Evaluation." Sources for further reading and subject and author indexes are included. (Author/AEF)
